To all techs, a group of men and women out of the terminix branch in Mokena, IL. Were able to organize and pull off a union win.

And our now part of Teamsters Local 710. They did something many have tried, they worked together and are now able to sit down and come up with a fair pay plan among other things. If you are at a branch and everyone there feels like it can't happen, well it did.

I would say reach out to the teamsters at Local 710 on how to organize and get a union at your branch. It's time terminix realizes they need there employees, and all we want is fair and living wages to take care of our families.

To who ever posted this, thank you for sharing this information. I with a few others PC TECHS, last year tried to form a union out of the San Bernardino Branch of terminix.

At first it was scary the idea of taking on a big corporation. But after I met with the teamster local 63 out of Rialto, Ca. And having the backing of a few of my Co-workers we decided it best to try and fight back, then to let them continue to take our money for cancellations we could not control, among other things. I was the leader of organizing trying to form a union, so my name was out their.

So on Jan 15th 2017, I sent out a Branch wide email to all the techs and salesmen, stating what the company was doing and that we have every right form a union. It was intense the first month, heck the first 3 days after I sent out that email. I knew I started something big, so big Service Master along with Terminix higher ups flew out two days after the email, organize a company meeting with everyone to discuss the issues, that we had been complaining about for months. They made promises, and believe it or not came through on some of them to shut us down, but of course it was just a ploy to shut down the union idea.

It worked for some, but it also showed how scared they were of the idea of their employees taking back the power to control their money. They used intimation tactics on any one who showed and interest of a union by doing ride a longs and interviewing people to get info on who else was involved. They harassed me a few times doing random inspections on me, trying to assign me to different areas outside of my route, among other things I witnessed. They pretty much did what they are taught at corp.

every year UNION BUSTING.

I'm putting this information out there to let people know it is your right by law to form and join a union. Go to the Nlrb.gov website, they are there to protect you and your rights. Meet with your local union or teamsters, and get with everyone you work with, to see if everyone wants it.

You don't need everyone on board, you just need 60% of the staff to show and commit to a union to get a vote in place.

Oh and our situation, well after 3 months of fighting them, and us gaining traction on our cause the company found false reasons to fire me. At the time of my firing which they did the morning of a meeting and paraded me out in front of everyone to show them what will happen if you try to organize a union. They killed the idea of a union those who were on board backed off, those who where on the fence, were no where to be found.

They killed the union idea, the day they fired me. But I did not go away, I contacted the NLRB on the day I got fired, reached out to the teamsters and presented all my evidence I had kept over the three months to the government. After 7 months of investigating my claim, the NLRB found in my favor that I was fired due to my union organizing activity and that the company was in the wrong. Before we were going to go to trial, we ended up settling.

I didn't have the energy to fight them for years, and I had no desires to work for that company ever again. Part of the conditions of my settlement was they remove any record of my firing from their records, they paid me my backpay, and I got front pay. They provided a netural letter of recommendation so I could use for future employment with another company. But the best part of all this, the company and the man who fired me, had to read a notice to all 150 employee in the presence of NLRB officer that everyone has a right to form a union, that company will not interfere or threaten or collude should they desire to try again, and they were in the wrong to fire me.

Plus they had to post a legal notice of everything mentioned at the meeting on the employee board for 60 days per the government. To me that's a win, yes I wish we had formed a union, and the reason I didn't go to trial was because by the time we would have won, everyone I was fighting for had either left or quit on their own. I have no regrets about trying to organize, I'm proud I stood up to them. If your curious on how to go about starting a union or want tips on how to do it and maybe make it happen id be glad to share my tips to help you organize.

you can email me at Payitforward78@***.com if you have any questions or need tips, I would be glad to help. I plan on applying at another company in the near future so i'm going to leave my name out of this, but you can call me MR. M.

Good luck to you in forming a union. Thank you for reading this.
